When I decided to go to graduate school, I had one goal - when I finish my training, I want to still be curious and excited about unknowns. When I visited the BMB department at The University of Chicago, its excitement toward science resonated with mine. When I spoke to the current trainees and faculty members, I saw how scientific ideas collide with each other, and how an ongoing project may simply originate from a chat by a coffee machine. What truly captivated me was how collaborative and innovative the environment is, where trainees acknowledge, appreciate, and provide constructive feedback on each other's work even if they are in different laboratories working in different fields. I believe that such a vibrant community can not only bring me the excitement of exploring the unknowns, but keep doing so.
