I chose to attend the University of Chicago due to its exceptional academic training, state-of-the-art facilities, commitment to diversity, and its vibrant campus and city culture. The university is renowned for its rigorous academic programs and its emphasis on intellectual curiosity and critical thinking. This provided me access to cutting-edge resources, research opportunities, and expert faculty who are leaders in the field of biological science. Additionally, the University of Chicago is committed to the diversity, equity, and inclusion of students on campus and scientists in research. As a black female in STEM, one of my highest values in science is to increase access and equality to those who are traditionally underrepresented or actively excluded from science and education careers. This institution actively involves students in critical roles that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates different perspectives, experiences, and identities. Lastly, The University's location in the vibrant city of Chicago offers a wealth of cultural, artistic, and social experiences. The city's rich history, diverse neighborhoods, and numerous cultural institutions provide a stimulating backdrop for personal growth and exploration. The combination of academic excellence, student involvement in diversity efforts, and the dynamic campus and city culture made the University of Chicago my choice for earning my Ph.D. and developing my future science career.
